Ms. Ortiz has been an educator for over 18 years. She worked within the New York City Department of Education both as a classroom teacher and assistant principal. As a classroom teacher she taught grades 3 through 6, specializing in project based learning for gifted students. As a teacher she worked as a mentor to new teachers, inquiry team chairperson, Academic Intervention Service provider and testing coordinator. As a teacher Ms. Ortiz worked closely with El Museo del Barrio, the Guggenheim Museum, and Ballet Hispanico through Project Arts. She also worked with The Rennert International Language School as a curriculum writer and ESL specialist, instructing top students from Russia, Istanbul, Japan, Korea, Germany, Italy and more. In 2012 Ms. Ortiz left the NYC Department of Education to become a founding member of Family Life Academy Charter School II where she currently serves the role of principal.
